Allocate Dates

Guide to Allocate Dates

    Authors Comment:-

As anyone who has tried to organise a league can verify, the organising of matches and match dates is the hardest and most time consuming single part of the process. A lot of time and effort has been expanded in order that this is no longer an issue for users of this software.

    Team Starting Numbers:-

This screen is used at that beginning of the season. The team names will be populated automatically from the Team Information window.

An index number is added next to each of the teams. This will give the organiser some flexibility when arranging matches. These numbers can be either sequential as shown or random. (If the same teams play each other year after year and the organiser wants to change the order that the teams play each other in, then the starting numbers should be allocated at random.) There are two buttons “Straight” and “Random” to do this for the organiser which should simplify things.

    Match Dates:-

The Organiser needs to select the dates. The number of match dates required is shown in the list. The Organiser can allocate a date by clicking on a date cell. The organiser is able to select all the dates required individually, however as in most cases the dates required follow sequentially one week apart an “Auto Fill” button has been provided. The Organiser may wish to leave a few weeks gap in the centre on the season e.g. over the Christmas and New Year period. A “Clear Last” button will therefore delete the last date in the list. The organiser can use this to clear the last, say, 10 dates and the manually select the date on which the matches restart. Pressing autofill will fill in all the dates below this one as described above.

A “Clear All” will remove all the dates displayed.

    Match Details:-

If the sequence numbers have been added and the dates have been added, pressing “Generate” will generate all the match fixtures for the division. (It is that simple!)

If the “Clear” button is pressed then all dates and results are deleted.

    De-Confliction:-

De-Confliction is required where two teams share the same venue and it is required that they do not both play at home on the same night. This has been catered for. The team in a given slot is deconflicted with the team exactly half the total number of teams below it.

    i.e. In the above example teams 1 and 8 are de-conflicted as are teams 2 and 9, 3 and 10, ... , 7 and 14.

Therefore in the above example if say “The Beer Drinkers” and “The Whiskey Drinkers” had to be de-conflicted, swapping index numbers 2 and 8 prior to pressing “Generate” would achieve the desired result.

Hint:- Have a play around generate some dates and look at the Team fixtures window to check for home and way games and de-confliction. You should be able to generate dates with confidence within 15 minutes.

Note: De-confliction has been set up in this way for divisions with more that 6 teams in them. For divisions with less that 7 teams de-confliction is around the middle team. ie if there were 6 teams, 1 and 6, 2 and 5, 3 and 4, would be de-conflicted.
